  • I cannot believe this is a SID chip.

It doesn't even sound like SID style.

  • It is a SID, no doubt about it. This game was run on a flat NTSC Commodore 128 with 6581 SID.

  • Questions:

    - Is this the multicolor 160x200 mode?

    - If it could run on a 6502, how would it perform? Slower? Or completely broke?

  • Hi! I believe it mostly in 160x200 mode. It will not run on a 6502, it was specifically written for the SuperCPU.

  • What does the OP think of the gameplay? It does look very, very impressive for a c64, but is the game fun? From what I have seen in this demo, there is a lot of memorization you must do to play this game. Remembering exactly when things will appear out of nowhere for example.

So, how is the gameplay? Is it fun to play?

Is it a great tech accomplishment considering the 20mhz 65816 cpu?

  • The game is fun, but you are right. There is a lot of memorization of board patterns to navigate and boss movements. The game is a tremendous technical accomplishment, a stock C64 would not come close in horsepower.

  • I would buy the game just for the music.

  • We meet again 240p!! Have at you!!

  • Gameplay looks extremely boring. I always hated games where you were just constantly shooting things coming your way.

  • @harleykman Many of the sounds are clearly audio samples which do not utilize the basic sid waveforms. I guess thats why id sounds so unfamilar.

  • Theres no slow down at all thats excellent and reminds me of those wonderful PCEngine shoot em ups.

  • @maiki60fps

That's what I was thinking, my guess is that they used a lot of SID interrupts with the 6502 to do the music which would have left us a trashy game if the unit had been stock. I'm not sure if the SuperCPU has a RAM expansion for it but it sure looks like it does.

  • @dmackey828 or, you know, you could play project x on the amiga.

what's the point of this? sure you could attach a pentium and a vga card to a c64 and make a doom clone, but that's just stupid. it's doesn't have anything to do with the original machine anymore.

  • One day I'll be able to play this game. Until then, I can only Dream..
