In this Judiciary subcommittee hearing focusing on medical bankruptcy, Kerrie Burns, of Coventry, Rhode Island, testified about how she lost her home and filed for bankruptcy after her four-year old son died of complications from Cystic Fibrosis.. The hearing was chaired by Senator Whitehouse, and was held to examine the Medical Bankruptcy Fairness Act , a bill he has proposed to examine potential bankruptcy reforms aimed at medical debtors.

  • Anyone fialing to sympathise with this couple need their head's checking. This is about the failings in the American Health Care System that would be unthinkable in countries with universal healthcare. Protection against bankruptcy alone would not save people from losing out dues to no fault of their own. Those who continually rant against "socialized" medicine should come up with some solutions for events like these.
