The spear is usually supposed to break in this demo. But after being left in the rain overnight it became more resilient. The spear slid down the front of my body, bounced off my navel, and hit my groin with enough force to lift my feet off the ground. I'm glad I also practised the iron groin training. I had a scar down my front for a while though.

    1. For iron throat do you train by training the muscles in your neck or by having someone punch you there?

    2. For iron groin its not a muscle or bone your can train. So you train by letting someone kick you in the nuts? Is it just about having dead nerves or are they really iron-like-tough?

    Non, non, no, no, no.

    The training is not like the demonstration at all. The goal is to protect the body, not damage it. Through gradual, safe, & gentle training, involving breath, posture, stretching, visualization, and "qi manipulation," one develops the ability to perform these "stupid master tricks" without injury. The skill is real (although it can be faked). Ski jumpers do not start with olympic jumps & weight lifters do not start with olympic weights.

    Don't hurt yourself.

  • 1. why use a spear that bends? Get a real hard stick.

    2. why not hold it horizontally at the throat, not down at the belly which gives it levarage.

    3. real talent would be for the spear to be thrown at his throat, see if he can survive that...

  • A hard stick would not break, and would only push the other person backward. That's too easily faked.

    Re # 2: The spear holder is careful to brace the spear against his belly with both hands together at the base. This way, the only thing that bends the spear is the pressure directly into the skin and trachea. If held horizontally, the pressure would be quickly directed downward toward the clavicle.

    As for question 3, you might as well ask, "Why not deflect bullets with your eyeball?"
