Here I show you how to replace the front non serviceable wheel bearing on any similar front wheel drive application. The vehicle I'm working on is a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. This style wheel bearing is very common on many GM front wheel drive applications and usually need replacement at 100k miles. Common problems include a short developing in the wheel speed sensor, and the grease drying up, causing play and eventually squealing.

  • @63lesabre my anti lock brake light didn't go out after having my bearing hubs replaced on my 04 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP after getting out the shop today. The mechanic told me to drive it for 40 miles to see if it resets. He said if it do not reset bring it back and he might have to change the sensor box under the hood.... I'm just asking, does any of this sounds normal to you?

  • @myvidstv1 That shortly happened to me as well, and on the 04 model there is a technical service bulletin about the ABS sensor pigtail going bad. The kit contains a splice for each side that corrects this issue that retails around 120$ per side. It is definitely not the sensor box under the hood. The ABS code will be stored if the ABS computer loses contact with the wheel speed sensor for 200 milliseconds, so it's difficult to pick up on a data graph from a scan tool. hope this helps.

  • @myvidstv1 The ABS light wont go out by itself after changing the hub. It has to be reset with a scan tool.

  • @MrSlasher80 Not necessarily true. The ABS system will store codes in history depending on a number of predetermined key cycles in which the conditions for setting a code have not happened. The ABS system in my 04 Grand Prix will only malfunction if I go over bumps, but immediately after key cycle it goes off.

  • Thanks for the upload! one really quick question if the abs light is not going off for me but i still need to replace balll bearings do I need to replace the whole assembely with the abs sensor?

  • @racer8172007 Yes. On this style hub, the ABS sensor is built into the hub.

  • thx for posting, cool vid, cool dude, very heful

  • My ABS, TRAC, Steer assist light went on also (2005 GT same color as the car in this vid). 108,000 miles so, I imagine that the culprit is one or both hub assemb. I will prob change em both. At what mileage did you install axle assembly's? I think I've got a CV that is got some wear as I notice a little creaking when backing out of the drive (front susp. compressed, wheels turned). Might be control arm wear also....have not had a chance to inspect anything really. Nice vid.

  • Great video thanks dude, but next time can you turn off the radio.

  • Take this big ol sumanabix out hahaha

  • how long did it take you to do this?????
