This is a short clip of the Town of Kerasunda (Giresun) which derives from the word "Kerasi" = "Cherry". Sitting on the Black Sea shore 151 klm west of Trabzon.

You will see the Church of St.Nick at the start from close, next to the old "Parthenagogio" (later you can see from afar). The board with the 2 men (Tsetes) in costume is reference to the campaign by Mustafa Kemal to rid the region of "infidel", it also the final resting place of the slaughterer "Zate Topal Osman" (Limp Osman) who's tomb has replaced the same place were the loved and respected by all (Turks and Pontians) Mayer Papadopoulos was berried before. (NOTE : Osman was put to hang by Turkey, without any trial, accused of being a traitor, ironically you will find a large Heroic statue of him in Giresun today). His tomb It sits on top of the hill next to the remains of the Byzantine castle walls, overlooking both sides of Kerasunta.

From the top I zoom into the Greek quadrant (were you see the church). Giresun is a much larger town then other sea side towns like Samunda (Amisos) and Ordu (Kotiora).

This is from my 1997 trip with Georgos Andreadis and a group of 50 other people including 3 priests and members of the Pontian Uni Students of Thessaloniki.

A Must visit area. All of Northern Turkey (Karedeniz).

  • it is not important who killed him or why he was killed/executed

the important thing is he fought for the turkish nation thus he is a Hero

  • @kuzey28, sorry to hear that you think like that. A fighter isn't always a Hero. Their are many hero's who never pick up a gun, people who save lives, not take them. I understand Turkeys war for independence (from who?) was important in the creation of todays Turkey, unfortunately it was at the price of many innocent people.

A True hero is the Turk who helped the Innocent family's escape the knife of the blood thirsty Tsetes, some Turks even risked their own lives in doing so, they are hero's.

  • @pontian69

Can tell me what the connection was between topal osman and the pontien costume worn by him ?

  • Topal is wearing the clothing of the local people, we seem to think that only the pontians wore the "zipkas" but it was all along the black sea, the georgians, etc... He had local army (as you see in the image on the sign) who had the same clothing...

  • Benim memleketim cök guzeldir

  • No one can say Giresun is Pontos. Because Giresun did not established by Greek people or Turkish people. Greek people and Turkish people settled down there almost in the same time. Himm i think i should tell to my Greek friends. People from Giresun so nationalist. If something happen to Turkey Giresunian people are going to protect Turkey in the front. Anyway i have a lot of Greek friends, we are so similar sometimes we talk about those things and they are pretty fun:)

  • giresun is turkısh pearl

  • Muslims of Pontic Greek origins, speakers of the Pontic language -Rumca, which is spoken by many people in Tonya, Maçka, Sürmene, Çaykara, and Dernekpazarı districts of Trabzon. The total number of the speakers may be guessed; roughly 250,000. Ömer Asan estimated the number of people of Pontian Greek descent in Turkey at about 300,000 in 1996 (see Pontos Kültürü). 5 minutes ago

  • pontian69 ; i just wanted to thank you as a Turkish for sharing this and understanding the humanity that so many Rums and Turks cannot.
