@Nelsonwmj You do realize that if they continued without being stopped, Russia and America might be glass today. The Secretary of Defence may have saved the world.

John paul Jones!!!
-
@Nelsonwmj because if they fired across the bow that would have meant nuclear war.

Gag...puke...and the guy playing McNamara actually had the balls to stand up to an officer...?

Military are for what politics tell them they are for. Mil ops bow to politics not the other way round. WTF were you thinking?

Bloody politician that Secdef was. "Message to Krushchev"?? Damn I'd say a couple of shots ACROSS the soviets' bows would be message enough. Why do politicians always fuck up military operations for POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. Just let them shoot for god's sake, THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE FOR!!!

This scene is clear and definite proof that even during this time period there were arrogant and egotistical people in positions of power who thought they knew better than everyone else.

I think 127mm HE should be used as a language to communicate with $cientologists.

@MsKeith1969 Well how did Nixon/Ford or Bush work out?
Of course, it never happened that way. The movie's aim was clearly to boost the reputation of the JFK at the expense of the military. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a darn close-run thing which never should have happened. JFK dropped the ball on this one.

@ogukuo72 Well as far as I've read - it seems to be historically accurate. He helped stand down a bunch of trigger happy generals
