Travis Pastrana sets record for Mt. Washington hillclimb

The 149-year-old Mt. Washington Auto Road has seen the likes of horses and carriages, camels, people, bicycles and most famously, competition race cars. On September 8th, Traveling at an average speed of nearly 72mph in a Vermont SportsCar prepared, BFGoodrich Tires-shod 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car, four-time Rally America National Champion Travis Pastrana made sure the project name, Red Bull Speed Chasers, lived up to its name. He reached the summit faster than anyone else in history by clocking an officially timed run of 6 minutes 20.47 seconds, besting the previous record by more than twenty seconds.

He definitely crushed the old record but check out Higgins' run in an OFFICIAL event WITHOUT A CO DRIVER telling him every turn and crest that's coming up. Beats Travis' unofficial time by more than a few seconds. Still, I have to give Travis some props, he can really drive (for a moto guy)!

Driving a rally car is just one of Travis' many talents & compared to WRC drivers who do nothing but just drive rally cars, he's a level above all of them.

When was the last time you saw any WRC driver do a double backflip on a dirtbike or jump out of a plane with no parachute or ride a dirtbike off a cliff into the Grand Canyon or do a 75ft backflip on Bob Burnquist's Mega Ramp on a children's tricycle or...anything?

@riklee 231 MPH winds, highest surface speed ever. It's never been more than 72 degrees F on the summit. I've stood on the summit in September where it was -20 degrees F and 80 MPH winds. That being said, I'm sure a lot of European rally drivers could crush his time.

@LMGBful Ken Block is not a full time rally driver, he was brought on Monster Rally Team and Subaru Rally Team for only selected events. He may only drive 2 or 3 times thru out WRC. And he has placed in the top 10 and a few top 5 in the few he has driving in.
