dont be a cheap ass get a new starter

Starter 100%, take it out, take it apart, take all the old grease off, and regrease it with either synthetic grease or bearing grease and it should be good as new.

Ever figure it out ??? :)

check your serpentine belt or your fan belt sounds like something squeals at the end when you turn it off somethings got to be replaced its a belt or a bearing might need some lube buddy
-
starter is improperly shimmed and is not disengaugeing from the flywheel when ignition is turned. go to bmw dealership and buy a ten dollar pack of shims...

Its your starter dude

I would guess the starter is wear out & flywheel. was that a standard car or automatic?
I no longer have this car, but I love the e30. I want another super clean one. The e30 is better than my current e90. As a BMW Fan I am worried for the brand in the coming years. The turbo 4 coming next year is fine, but Not with an increased price.
