On January 27, 2010, Congressman Joe Courtney welcomed Connecticut resident Sergeant Helman Roman and his family to the United States Capitol for the President's State of the Union Address. Sgt. Helman served in Iraq in 2006-2007 with the Nevada Army National Guard and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. On September 11, 2009, Sgt. Roman was injured during an IED attack on his armored vehicle. Since that time, the Sergeant has been recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
