Culex at Level 6, No death, No Items, No Recovery, Crystals First Part 1

This was made on an Emulator without the use of Hacks, Save States, Slow Down, or Frame Advance. The Video is attempt number 34-37 (lost track a bit along the way.)

No recovery of any kind, including "Come Back" and "Group Hug, ext."
No Items
No Death
Crystals are killed first

Artist's Comments:

This is by far the hardest run I have ever done. I had amazing luck with both the magic attacks and my ability to luck manipulate at full speed. Good luck to all who attempt to do the same. Remember, patience is key.

Q&A:

1) Shredder?

Removes boosted stats


2) How to block Culex's physical attack?

Just before it is his turn to start attacking, press A. Trust me, it is worth it even if he doesn't attack. Eventually he will.


3) Why does no one take damage from most attacks?

Safety ring, Super Suit, and Lazy Shell all have secondary effects of preventing instant death attacks and Elemental attacks. The Red crystal uses only elemental attacks; the Green and Blue Crystals usually only use Elemental attacks, and the Earth Crystal uses none.


4) Why so many misses?

Luck Manipulation. Press A, Y, X, or B just before damage appears to have a much greater chance of a miss. With perfect timing, it will always miss.


5) How long did it all take?

A week. 34-37 failed runs.


6) What happens when you fail?

I'll show you in a future video.


7) How did you manage level 6?

A lot of planning and the Lucky Jewel/Hammer.


8) Where do you get the lucky Hammer?

Seaside Town's weapon shop.


9) How do we know it isn't Tool-Assisted?

If it was a TA run, I'd state so, and I'd make it so that no damage was done to the 3 characters. I'd also show off by doing it with Mario at Level 3. =p

ok i'm just watching this in 2012 and i think its a fake... for one you couldn't get luck all the time with out takeing damage and the damage the Crystals do why is it so low?

Date has nothing to do with it and I don't know why you brought it up.

I didn't. I was nearly killed by the end. With the equips, only the Earth Crystal, Culex, and 1 attack from the Ice crystal can harm me due to elemental immunities. (Wind crystal has petal blast and the giant sleep bubble iIIRC, but it doesn't survive for long enough)

The equipment and the stats are in the beginning of the video to answer the 3rd part of your concern.

i believe this is real but HOW did he get that far at that low level??? i mean its possible but if u were to skip enemies and only do required fights and get the accessories its unbelieveable! and bowser has the heal shell so hes already been to bowsers castle!

If this is true then I bet it must've took you a much longer time to accomplish all of this then you would if you played it through normally. Especially against the first few bosses.

When I first fought Culex, I thought he was Immune to all damage until the crystals were beaten, so I always took them down first(I was like 7 at the time) and after I learned that was not the case, I still took them down first, by virtue of thinking "Yeah, I'd get ruined so fast if I didn't take down the crystals, too much damage, not enough Group Hugs from Peach"

Now when I see Culex Fights, I see stuff that would pass as God Hood back when I first played. mechakoto... you rock.
