Here's Wm. D. Revelli conducting William Schuman's Chester Overture. This is another great example of the band's warm, beautiful sound, rhythmic precision and balance. The percussion instruments are also amazing. Comments are welcome. Please view and enjoy my other vids, too! For information on this and other Symphony Band recordings email Don at

  • Where can I find a recording of this?

  • @DavidoffeTV Email donozga211@comcast.net Thanks for watching/listening

  • We did this same arrangement

  • @dj4eagle Thia isn't an arrangement.

  • @maestrojimbo Actually this is a bit of a confusing point. as it is the third movement from Scumann's New England Triptych written for orchestra. Its transcription for band was by Schumann himself, adding to the continuing confusion...original piece for band or an "arrangement".

  • @rdsmith925 My recollection is that the orchestra and band versions are not the same structually. To add to the confusion, Schuman did a rework for solo piano for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

  • This is probably the best recording and interpretation of "Chester" I've ever heard. Revelli really knew his stuff.

  • As a 10th grade percussionist band nerd, I was very much looking forward to playing this piece in my school's Wind Ensemble. He recently took this off the list. Now it's Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger, Sleep by Eric Whitacre, Poem by Jonathan Frazner (?), and Ride by Samuel Hazo. All still great pieces. I just really like the spontaneous, abrupt, precision with which the fast part is written to be played.

  • @genmauri3 Probably because it was too hard for them...when I've both performed and conducted this piece, it was very hard for groups to get thier head wrapped around it when they were working too hard at it. Very under-rated in it's difficulty.

  • @mAsTeRsLiCk109 im playing 3rd clarinet part and i just got it today. ITS REDICULUS!! Im in grade nine so im 14! thers like 4 differant octaves im hitting all of a sudden at some point!

  • Played 1st trumpet. We played this amazing piece for Texas State Honor Band and surprisingly won State! We played this in middle school. Very difficult piece for a 13 year old!

  • I'm playing this is band and I play tenor saxophone. i like the beginning and end but the middle is kinda random!!
