As AHRC New York City's Melissa Riggio Higher Education program approaches another semester's end, enrolled students with developmental disabilities and soon-to-be graduates continue to benefit from the opportunity to attend college.

The program, located at Kingsborough Community College (KCC) and the College of Staten Island (CSI), was created with the concept in mind that college is an essential component of the preparation of young adults with disabilities to become productive members of their community.

Studies have shown that youth with intellectual disabilities who receive post-secondary education are more likely to be competitively employed and obtain higher earnings over time then their peers who do not have this experience.
