VICTORIA -- The bars had just let out Saturday morning, crowds of young people spilled into downtown Victoria. Then something terrible happened at the corner of Douglas and View. "It's hard to talk about right now. He got hit, fell, and hit his head pretty hard on the pavement" says Nigel Slinn, a friend of Tyler Noble.

Victoria Police say Noble was knocked unconscious. He was rushed to hospital, where he later died surrounded by dozens of family and friends. "I was the last person with the family to say goodbye to him. Gave him a kiss goodbye. He's off to a better place" says friend Shayne Stewart.

Four hours after the assault, 24-year old Brandon Huth walked into Victoria Police headquarters, and turned himself in. He remains in custody charged with 2nd degree murder.

Victoria Police won't confirm whether or not Noble or Huth had been drinking Friday night. Investigators are also not commenting on what led up to the confrontation at Douglas and View.

Tyler Noble's grieving family is leaning on the support of friends, as his mom struggles to grasp how her son could be gone so soon, and someone else may be sent to jail. "Now that family is ruined....why, just to throw a punch? Because of that somebody dies. It's not fair, I don't want to see anybody punished but unfortunately it's consequences for your actions. I feel bad for that" says Laurie Noble.

Noble's friends say he was being trash-talked outside the bar early Saturday morning, a situation Tim Stockwell, Director of UVic's Centre For Addictions Research, has seen turn tragic far too often. "I've seen police reports of violent incidents, and they make you sick. It's always some stupid comment somebody said insulting somebody about their appearance or their ethnicity or boyfriend or girlfriend, a fight breaks out and someone hits their head."

Tyler Noble is being remembered as the sort of guy who was friendly to everyone, who was funny, and who will be deeply missed.

Brandon Huth is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
