Fantastic slab of late 60s orchestral pop from the great and underrated Alan Price. The song is a traditional north-east folk ballad remembering the tragic 1882 mining disaster.

  • Love the keyboard solo in the center. Alan is amazing.

  • @asorls1 So do I. One of the finest piano breaks in the history of pop. AP is so underrated.

  • @sabrinaeden Well that's 1840's if I remember correctly:isn't that traditional?

    Whatever,glad we both enjoy it!

  • Brilliant. But it's not traditional - the song was written by Pitman's Poet Tommy Armstrong.

  • Wonderful, that and Jarrow Song are such powerful links to Alan's Geordie heritage...as the busty lady says,"Don't underestimate the Pricey"

  • @budsmith65 I agree, along with the organ in his songs Fools Gold, or You're Telling Me.

  • Thank you for putting this up. I hadn't heard it before - 'wall of sound' meets Trimdon Grange. Genius.
