This is very nice, and if you are into high notes she was wonderful at that. There are even traces of her acting ability showing through here. BUT this is very little compared to what she has been doing from about 2003 and onward. Her 1995 Morgana was, of course, unbelievable, but to my taste (and I think many others') she has become really great as the years have gone on... Uh Oh! I just remembered her album "Mozart Heroines" which was 2000. This at 1990 was an un fully developed Natalie.

El mismo problema lo han tenido Caruso, Callas, Di Stefano, Villazón: todos los que han entregado su vida al ARTE.
Para mí, Dessay es una de las mejores sopranos de todos los tiempos y aquí, como en todo, está insuperable!

"Si j'étais roi" à Liège (la ville de Grétry), une production presque mythique, justement parce que c'était quasiment les débuts de N. Dessay ! Je ne pensais pas qu'il en restait un témoignage vidéo.
En plus la mise en scène à l'air toute jolie...
En ce qui concerne Dessay, il se passe ce truc génial qu'on comprend ce qu'elle dit (peut-être pas toujours, mais j'ai fait attention dans la partie rapide) et qu'on s'en fiche complètement !!! Sans doute parce que la voix est trop belle.

I do prefer the freshness and ping of her voice here, although that is a testament to youth as much as technique. The voice is just gorgeous. I think Dessay sacrificed her singing in favor of acting. I assume this is why she developed the polyp. Bravo to her for being such an amazing singer, nonetheless, and for blazing back to form after what had to be a terrifying operation. Singers tremble at the thought of anything that might ruin our chords.

Liège-les-Balloches ? C'est la banlieue de Bruxelles. C'est le trou du cul du bout du monde civilisé. Pas étonnant que Dessay en soit réduite à chanter sur des petites scènes de province avec sa voix qui s'étiole de plus en plus.
