We knew about it back in 1978 and we saw it getting ridden (probably Clark out there), had no interest in riding what we called Pillar Point. We rode Princeton a lot in the early 1980's and knew some of the HMB locals that also rode Mavericks. Soon as the Santa Cruz guys got wind it was all over the place.

That ledge is terrifying. No other paddle in wave at least pitches you like that. Especially on a big west swell when it gets really hollow. Not to mention the risk of getting sucked through the rocks...

Alright, I'd be shitting if I was paddling out there but relative to other spots like Jaws, big Teahupoo or even Pipe, Mavs doesnt seem that bad at all.. You drop in and kick out, wow
