KARACHI: The holy month of fasting, Ramadan, begins on Monday as the moon has been sighted in different parts of the country, ARY NEWS reports.
The moon was sighted in Islamabad, Multan, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Quetta and other cities. First fast would be observed on Tuesday.
The formal announcement of the moon is yet to be made by the Rauet-e-Halal committee as it is in session at Karachi. The committee is being chaired by its head Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman at the Karachi Met office.
All regional offices of the Rauet-e-Halal would be having meetings in the regional headquarters simultaneously for moon sighting and collection of testimonies from the public.
On the other hand, in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar's influential Qasim Ali Khan Mosque announced late Sunday that Ramazan will begin on Monday. The first fast of the month was also observed in some tribal agencies today.
Partial fasting was observed in Peshawar, Mardan and Charsadda while almost all in North Waziristan observed fasting.
A session of ulema in Bannu condemned the decision to announce Ramazan before the government and called it an illegal act aimed at driving wedge between the ummah. News of ARY NEWS at 19:00
