The Hellenic Period (500-300 BC) is the "classic" period of Greek culture. In the period between the defeat of the Persians and the conquests of Alexander the Great, Greece enjoyed a cultural flowering and economic prosperity seldom matched in the ancient world. Drama, philosophy and sculpture all began or underwent significant refinement in this period. Between historians there is not doubt, Hellenic period is different then Hellenistic period.
@SMYRNAfreedom The term Hellenistic was coined by the historian Johann Gustav Droysen to refer to the culture and colonization over the non-Greek lands that were conquered by Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC, compared to "Hellenic" which describes Greek culture in its native form. There has been much debate about the validity of Droysen's ideas, leading many to reject the label 'Hellenistic' (at least in the specific meaning of Droysen).
@tripleMboy no, Hellenism is Greek. Hellenistic is Greek in different lands and regions. Kleopatra, Ptolomiac, Seleukos, Balas, Antioxos are all Greek names and Greeks from Hellenistic times. Greek culture in different lands after the death of the Greek King Alexander the Great.
-->> Finally, Hellenism is used with reference to Judea, Persia, etc. to indicate the penetration of elements of Hellenism and Macedonian civilization into territories which, though subject to Macedonian rule for a certain period of time, preserved their national culture with conspicuous success.
--->>The word Hellenism is also used to indicate more generically the cultural tradition of the Eastern Roman Empire between Augustus and Justinian and/or the influence of Hellenism and Hellenistic civilization on Rome, Carthage, India, and other regions which were never part of the empire of Alexander. --->>
@SMYRNAfreedom HELLENISM, is a term generally used by historians to refer to the period from the death of Alexander the Great (323 B.C.) to the death of Cleopatra and the incorporation of Egypt in the Roman Empire in 30 B.C. The period of Macedonian supremacy over the all-known world in that time. Egypt was the last important survivor of the political system which had developed as a consequence both of the victories of Alexander and of his premature death. -->>
@tripleMboy - ABSURD. Greeks byzantines brought these things to the rest of Europe and taught Europe. Greeks history is doucmented in writings and in stone. All the ideas after the "Renaissance" came from the Greeks - all copied. These radical theories are absurd - they try to distort Greek and European hsitory. But you think "Macedonian" history is not invented? lol Macedonian is only Greek from the origns of Greeks and Hellas. Communists tactics brainwashed your people.
@SMYRNAfreedom that what I have posted here, these are words of the great world's scientists, not mine. Now, if you think that you are someone who knows more about that then those - then that's OKI :)))))) in one word: GREEKS ARE BAVARIAN FAKE INVENTION, NOTHING ELSE. THERE IS NOT A LINK WITH ANCIENT TIME.
@tripleMboy - slavs managed to invade, but these lands were freed again from Slavs. The setttlements were inland and diverse from the Greek native populations. The Slavs were driven out and only settled in the Greek Makedonia area and Paionia.
The name "Macedonia" is in fact the oldest surviving
name of a country in the continent of EUROPE.
Whereas,Greece wasn't united until 1832.
This fact certainly does not give them the
"copyright" of the name MACEDONIA.
