  • i did this system but it filling up more water in my pot and my begonia plants don't like stagnation of water.so kindly help me by that my plant may happy in self watering system

  • @chennaiman2009 You need to make sure the roots are planted above the high water mark.

If your pot is too shallow there wont be enough room for your water reservoir and you end up filling water up too the roots, which most plants don't like.

The hydroton (or other planting media) is supposed to act like a wick and bring the water to the roots.

  • great video !!

but boss where u get hydroton to buy in trinidad?

They will have in stock soon.

  • If you're using the hydroton, why bother with the inserts? My husband just drills several small holes about 1.5"-2" from the bottom to drain out the excess water, periodically flushing the whole thing with fresh water to keep it from getting stagnant. :)

  • @rubian77 I dont want the water to drain out. I also dont want the hydroton filling up the bottom of the container.

The inserts create a reservoir space at the bottom, and allow the hydroton to suck very last drop of water from the bottom and transport it to the roots. There is no stagnation.

I water these pots once a week. I pour a little at a time until the reservoir is filled.

The begonia plants are doing well in the window, although I know they would prefer to be outside.
