  • Callas is the model of excellence in this aria for every other interpreters. However, I think Patti (considering the audio technology and her age by the time she recorded it), Sayão, Sutherland and a handful of other Aminas also captured the deepest and most expressive subleties of this aria extremely well. Callas' timbre seemed to suit this melody in a special way as if it were written especially for her. As for Moffo, she had a very short prime, but was definitely amazing in some roles.

  • @Homoclassicus i wont say anything about mofo, sayao or patti but I will say that in all other parts of the opera besides this particular aria Sutherland was incredible even at points better than Callas. But in this aria she just didnt manage

  • Callas, shines in this aria! She is the only one of 100's of sopranos who have sung this aria, that infuse it with meaning.... and beauty...most, ( other than MOffo).. go through the motions.. Its a very lovely aria, and she is very much in touch with the meaning of the words, and I swear she is channeling Bellini at times... (its other worldy) I too love Maestro Votto... he .. conducted that fabulous Gioconda, she recorded in 1959. ( among others) but these are fabulous, performances..

I have to agree with Joan Sutherland when she said that there isnt one single opera Moffo ever sang well ahhahahahahah

  • @LohengrinT

well, there's no proof sutherland ever said that. i know people who love moffo, so she has her fans. my favorite moffo recording is her thais, for comic relief.

  • @asdfopera

well Mofo was dreadful in general :)) Everybody has his fans that does not mean anything Even the worst caricature of a singer can have a fan club, it is a big world out there :))

  • @LohengrinT I do not agree with her.. Actually, Moffo's recording of Butterfly in 1956? is sublime.. and I mean that.. she is totally convincing.. and vocally fabulous.

  • @WiseMonkey888
