Carving has been a buzzword in skiing since the arrival of so-called 'parabolic' skis in the 1990s, but carving ski turns is as old as skiing itself.

In this partial ski lesson taken from the Ski School Advanced App, ski instructor Darren Turner explains what the term 'carving' means, talking about sidecut and the difference between a carve and a skid.

Guys, improve your ski skills doesn't need to be difficult (I used to feel it did). I'll give you some advice right now. Search a training program called Avalorexon Training Program (do a google search). Seriously, thanks to Avalorexon Training Program I've become a better skier. I probably shouldn't even be mentioning it cause I do not want a bunch of other folks out there running the same "game" but whatever, I am in a good mood today so I'll share the wealth haha.

Quite a lots of people think skidding is a bad thing it will help control speed, you can carve all turns short and long but skidding is an important part of skiing.

There is always scope for skidding. Side slipping, short radius and jump turns all involve a bit, but if on a well prepared piste carving always looks best.

You would skid a bit in short radius turns or jump turns. A term used is 'controlled skidding' All out of control skidding is bad
