John trudell on hope. A clip from the basic interview, recorded in 2003, plus an ad for the Collection that was inspired by the clip. (If there's any doubt, we enjoy the heck out of doing this stuff.)

The full interview is posted in two parts on the TRUDELL VIDEO ARCHIVE MySpace page. Total viewing time for the full interview is just under two hours. It covers a wide range of topics starting before the beginning (THE ORIGINAL DREAM) and extending through John's upbringing, history and career(s) to conclude with his comments to future generations (2052).

John has a wide range of published audio, video and print material. You can find all of it for sale at his web site: WWW.JOHN TRUDELL.COM. You can also find much material at WWW.MOTHERSWORLDMARKET.COM.

His CDs, both music and spoken word, are available for download at ITUNES and at WWW.CDBABY.COM.

Purchasing any of this material at any of these sites directly supports the creation of the next wave of content. We encourage you to consider making a purchase.

In the meantime, we are adding content to the MySpace Audio and Video pages (and to YouTube) as we can. We invite you to enjoy them. We always appreciate your comments and any form of adding/sharing/posting you may choose for this material.

Thanks for your attention and support.

peace

  • "The word in Tibetan for hope is rewa; the word for fear is dokpa. More commonly, the word re-dok is used, which combines the two. Hope and fear is a feeling with two sides. As long as thereís one, thereís always the other." --Pema Chodron

    Thank you for sharing.

  • he's obviously a wise being whose thoughts should be taken to heart and repeated.

  • @Danalegs36 : I always thought that Pandora actually did us a favour by keeping Hope inside - we remain on our own and can think and act... all from the human heart, with respect , of course.

  • (4) stories, or it would not have been necessary for mythmakers to try to alter cultural perceptions. **

    * Since the Greek word for box, pyxis, was also slang for a womans vagina, Hesiods myth also contained an unflattering pun.

** Pandora is an ambiguous name. It can mean bearer of all gifts (an honorific frequently used to address the Great Mother in prayer) or it can mean taker of all gifts. In Hesiods telling, her name assumes the second, mean-spirited, definition.

  • (3) childbirth. Having demonstrated the untrustworthiness of her gender, she-and all women yet unborn-were to be dominated by their fathers and then by their husbands.

Pandora disobeyed the order not to open the box because she desired knowledge. Her crime and punishment mirror Eves in Eden. Both stories have the same purpose: to denigrate women, demote the Great Mother, and create a myth that enabled men to dominate women. Women must have possessed power prior to the creation of these (cont)

  • (1) The Deadly race and tribes of womankind, Great pain to mortal men with whom they live, Helpmeets in surfeit—not in dreadful need. Just as in ceilinged hives the honeybees Nourish the drones, partners in evil deeds, And all day long, until the sun goes down, They bustle and build up white honeycombs, While those who stay inside the ceilinged hives Fill up their bellies from the others work, So women are a curse to mortal men— As Zeus ordained—partners in evil deeds.
  • (2) For fires boon he made a second curse.

This second curse was Pandora. Zeus gave her as a wife to the slow-witted Titan, Epimetheus, and then entrusted him with a box containing the ills of the world. Disobeying her husbands orders to leave the box untouched, Pandora opened the lid and released a collection of evil spirits, which, from that day forward, wreaked havoc on the world.* In punishment for her disobedience, Zeus sentenced Pandora and all her daughters to experience difficult
