The Detroit Police Department's continuation of their data-driven approach to policing has proven to be successful, stated Chief Ralph L. Godbee, Jr.

Since January, 2010, the DPD's narcotic unit has confiscated illegal drugs with an estimate street value of over $ 89 million, tripling the street value amount as compared to the entire year of 2009.

A raid at a home on Kenmore yesterday evening around 8:00 p.m. by the DPD's Narcotic Enforcement was the latest major drug bust. Officers confiscated 1231 grams of heroin and over one pound of marijuana, with a street value of over $2 million. They also recovered more than $ 100,000 in suspected drug proceeds, one hand gun (9mm), 7 vehicles (Jeep Commander, 2-Chevy Impala, Chevy Camaro, Chevy Tahoe, Buick Park Avenue, and Buick Century) and three motorcycles (Suzuki, Vortex, and a Harley Davis).
"The Detroit Police Department is working harder with fewer resources" Chief Godbee stated. "But, we are determined to continue making dents in the drug trafficking trade by removing drugs from communities, which will help decrease a range of other crimes."

Anyone with information about illegal drug activity can text tips directly to police at 847411 (TIP 411). All text messages are anonymous and untraceable. Tip messages must begin with the letters DPD to reach Detroit Police.

  • A good victory against the narco-criminals in Detroit. However, are other agencies to improve education and employment opportunities getting enough funding too? Those will be necessary to address the root causes of Detroit's urban decay.
