"The Jordanian society between East and West, Past and future" conference took place with keynote speaker his royal highness Prince Hassan Bin Talal, and among the distinguished speakers were her Excellencies Leila Sharaf, and Asma Khader,his Excellency Mohammad Halaiqa, Dr. Ahmad Nofal, and Dr. Mo'men Hadidi. This conference was sponsored by the King Abdullah Fund for Development (KAFD) and the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). The first panel addressed the political and economical impacts on the Jordanian society from a social perspective, in particular the impact of the Iraqi war on the growth and inflation in Jordan and the immigrant issues the Jordanian society is facing.
The second panel discussed the sources of behaviors in the Jordanian society, in particular addressing stagnant stereotypes, identifying attitudes and discussing the sources of tensions and common ground among the diverse groups such as culture, media, religious beliefs and traditions.The third panel consisted out of experts who shared their expertise on the role of family and marriage, in addition to homosexuality in the Jordanian society.while the fourth panel focused on the equality between men and women, in particular the sources of tensions and common ground related to the needs and rights of young women within the Jordanian society and touched upon issues as viriginity, honor killings, and abortions.
