US Airways Express departs Norfolk International Airport on a cool autumn day. Footage shot from the public observation area at the airport. Unfortunately, there was no way to avoid the fence.

  • You're right. I happened to be in the right place at the right time, as aircraft will land and depart in one of the two directions of the runway. I'm not really sure how this is determined, but I guess I was lucky this day.

  • @Imachevroletdude The which way they go is USUALLY determined by the wind direction. Although I have seen and heard a Delta DC-9 50 pilot ask If there were ships in the harbor and then asked if she could use runway 23. She used up all of the runway and rotated right across from the viewing area, so Im guessing it was fully loaded.

  • @Dc9fan, thanks for the update and you are exactly right. I learned this when I finally started flying myself. Landing and departing aircraft will typically take off and land into the wind.
