The Hydrovolts Flipwing hydrokinetic turbine is demonstrated at the Islen Dock at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on June 10, 2010. The turbine rotates in a current created by the propeller of a large boat. The rotation begins at current velocity of only one knot or 0.5 m/sec. At this speed it can generate enough electricity to charge the batteries on sensors and transmitters.
