This is one day (minus a few hours in the morning) of data from our school seismometer in ENGLAND of the devastating Japanese earthquake on the 11th of March. The data has been converted to sound using a bit of software I wrote, and sped up 2000 times to make it audible. The reason for the crackling is because even from the other side of the world it maxed out the seismometer. Note you can hear many of the the after shocks despite the huge distance.
