Holding a press conference on Tuesday in Baghdad, Iraqi chief prosecutor Raed al-Juhi declared that Iraqi ousted leader Saddam Hussein and his six aides would be tried on genocide charges over the Anfal campaign against Kurds that claimed an estimated 180,000 lives. al-Juhi said that similar charges would be laid against his six co-defendants including Ali Hassan al-Majid known as Chemical Ali.
"The investigation has been completed for the Anfal campaign and the seven accused have been referred to the court." he stated.
"The exact date of the genocide trial, which would presumably take place after the conclusion of the Dujail trial, would be determined by the court." he added.
As part of three-stage the Anfal operation, an estimated 5,000 Kurdish including women and children were killed in Halabja in gas attack on March 16th in 1988, one of the worst atrocities of Saddam Hussein's regime
He got what he deserved. Justice prevailed, and he was rightfully hanged for the crimes against humanity that he committed. Let the souls of the 150,000 victims rest forever peacefully.
