Why should you care? What are you "supporting" by supporting the people in the streets? What is the truth of what's happening over there? What difference is it really going to make? Why are we getting so caught up in this totally and completely corrupt process that is not worth getting upset over?

  • "Why would the president rig an election"?

Maybe because it would have been politically dangerous to not let Mousabi run?

  • But the President of iran has NO power, no ability to do anything except put a little public face on economic policy. He is a puppet of the current clerical rule. It doesn't really matter which one of them is in office as far as I can see?

  • try getting elected on an atheist mandate in america.

  • Yes, until I did some reading on the religious attitudes of our founding fathers and the practices of the day I can understand now why people were totally flabbergasted when a catholic was elected president.

  • part 4 (Please start reading from part 1)

It may take a little longer, but they proved to the world that IRANIANS dont want this government and are willing to pay with their lives to get back their Freedom. God bless all the freedom fighters and death to the Godless tyrant who kill their own people under the name of Islam. We the people of Iran are on the streets for FREEDOM. If would rather die as hero than live without FREEDOM from dictators.

    God bless Iranian people.

  • part3

Ahmadijad and Khamenie got scared and stuffed the ballot boxes in favor of Ahamidinejad. Why are people angry? They see the supreme leader is calling them idiots (Ahmadinejad already called the people Dirt). Iranians are well educated and well informed and 80% hate their Islamic government (not the Islam itself). They will not be oppressed for ever and cracks in the system has already started and soon will implode.

  • Part2

Khamenie was not expecting Musavi to come even close to winning, but the last campaign push by well respected Musavis wife who has been fighting for womans right, turned the votes to Mosavi. Government claims that the survey that was taken 4 weeks before election showed Ahmadinejad ahead by 2 to 1 on Musavi.

What they dont mention is that by law you are not allowed to campaign until 3 weeks before the election. That was the time that Musavi turned the public opinion in his favor.

  • Part1

I can make it clear for you.Based on the present constitution the supreme leader is elected by a group of Ayatollahs and he can be removed by their votes. Khamenie son (Mojtaba)wants the constitution changed so his father will be the representative of God on earth. This will allow him to dismantle the constitution and Mojtaba to be his replacement not any one else.Musavi with the backing of power full Rafsanjani and Khatami is too strong and would stop him from changing the constitution.

  • All the dmonstrations are for FREEDOM, election is just an excuse. the only time that people can gather and chant is 3 weeks before the presidential election. You are right there is no freedom, it is just so called election of the preselected people and Khamenie has the last say in every thing. Khamenei was not expecting Musavi to make the last minute surge and be elected as president. The only thing he could do was to give some freedom to woman and khamenie couldn't see that.

  • I'm 15 and from England i think that all tho wt u were saying was interesting there must be a cultural difference which were not seeing for people to go out on the streets and die there's got to be something more

  • Pronounce Iran with a small "I". ;).

I think the person being "approved" by the system doesn't make him 'corrupt' but means his views are not say liberal by our standards.

If the president were powerless, why is he running for re-election.

The wiki article "Mohammad Khatami's reforms"

Is interesting. Reform is always relative but he's seen as going in the right direction, like your founding fathers might have been at the time.

Neda was not likely reform minded but seeking honesty ...

  • Agreed! The real tears come from the "with impartiality "

  • It doesn't matter to the political system. And he doesn't have any foreign pol authority. However, it does matter. When Ahmadinejad became president, for instance, the morality police got a lot more nosy and pushy. He also does influence economic policy.

  • You have many good points, but then again what is "worth getting upset over?"

Have you seen Woody Allen's "Whatever Works?"
