I first heard this African-American spiritual sung by the late great Odetta.

You can find a video of Jessye Norman singing it on YouTube and also an excellent rendition by Mattie Harper.

  • Is it a re-recording, are you snging with yourself. It let me think about old New Orleans fblues and jazz, and about a group I heard on a recording in the sixties, on a record of the Newport Folk Festival, but I didn't remember the name of this group.

  • Just experimenting with my iMovie program to add extra sound. Yes, all voices are me.

  • Simply amazing. Simply amazing. You've done Odetta proud.

  • Thanks, SirCoughsalot. She did it rather differently, but her version certainly made an impression on me. It was the first track on her album, "My Eyes Have Seen" and the first time I had ever heard (or heard of)Odetta.

  • nice job Raymond !

  • Thanks, Danny.

  • Yes, I've noticed that in some of your videos. It does sound a bit strange to hear everyone singing in my own voice. It would be nice to have a real backing group, but we have to work with what we've got.

  • Yes, as I said to Stewball, my resources are limited. It would be better with the right equipment.

  • Thanks, Max. I don't have the facilities to do it as well as I'd like to, but I like to experiment with the limited tools at my disposal.

  • Thanks for watching Anna. I do aim for variety. :-)
