I watched these Air Canada workers in Toronto wander around their filthy ramp, refusing to pick up FOD, even when it was at their very feet. FOD stands for Foreign Object Damage, and is basically anything that can damage an aircraft. In this case, the plastic and paper swirling around the aircraft parking area could be sucked into an engine, causing thousands or even millions of dollars in damage. Why these workers wouldn't pick up the garbage is beyond me. Date of video: 24 Aug 2010.
As an aircraft mechanic, that's pretty disgracefull. Everyone 'air-side' knows the importance of keeping the place 'FOD Free'. After all, it was a piece of FOD that brought down Concorde amongst hundreds of other aircraft. As for awesomeskierboys comment, you're obviously not that awesome.

@thelastdaysmessenger It is *everyone's* job. Every airport in the world manual obligates *any* employee to pick up foreign object debris. If you're not allowed to the ramp, you must report this to airport authority to get it cleaned up. FOD is of concern to everyone.

Maybe they think they don't get paid enough to do that, or it isn't their job?
