"The nineties were a huge disappointment..." Def Leppard front man Joe Elliott says 90's music lacks melody and that's why those bands haven't endured the way 80's bands have.
@MILUNGAO
Not to mention nu metal bands like korn-horn and limo shithouse aka Korn and Limp Bizkit, I Blame this band for hurting not only rock music, but music as a whole and to make matters even worse that shithole of a magazine called rolling stone magazine ranked that no talented hack kurt nobrain higher than randy rhodes, Angus young, carlos santana, Eddie Van Halen, The Late Jerry Garcia and others, what a joke and it proves how pathetic the american music industry truly is.

By the way, if someone from the 80's should be blamed, it's Madonna. She gave to the women a disgusting/vulgar image. Without her, we wouldn't have people like Britney Spears, the Spice Girls, Courtney Love, Christina Aguilera, Fergie, Beyoncé, Rihanna & Lady Gaga.

The 90's= the golden age of one-hit wonders, the decade of the losers, the reign of the hypocrisy & the mediocrity. Can you believe it: Jennifer Lopez managed to stand the test of time, while Meredith Brooks, Gwen Stephani and Shirley Manson didn't. And it says alot about the 90's, hahahahahaha.

And it's a fact: Nirvana was the beginning of the mainstream music's level-down. After them, we didn't have great rock/metal bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Who, Aerosmith, The Doors anymore. We didn't have the likes of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin. Before Nirvana, we had some great punk bands (The Misfits, The Damned, The Ramones, The Exploited, TSOL, Black Flag...). After Nirvana, we had shitty pseudo-punk bands (Sum 41, Green Day, Good Charlotte...).

For Nirvana, let's be honest: without Kurt Cobain's suicide, Nirvana would be almost forgotten by the masses today. Besides "Smells like teen spirit", most of the people cannot mention one Nirvana song. Nirvana is just a one-hit wonder, the Knack of the 90's (The Knack: My Sharona/Nirvana: Smells like teen spirit). The vast majority of rock/metal fans couldn't even name 5 Nirvana songs. Pearl Jam, AIC, Soundgarden and Temple Of The Dog were/are by far superior.

Some people may hate the 80's, but at least, this decade produced a lot of great guitar players: Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Nuno Bettencourt, Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, Steve Clark, Jake E.Lee, Richie Sambora, John Norum, Richie Kotzen, Alex Masi, Kirk Hammett, Marty Friedman, Scott Ian... For the 90's, you can name Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dimebag Darrell, Jerry Cantrell, Tom Morello, John Petrucci, and that's all.

I know a lot of people who used to love 90's stuff before, but now they find it boring & realize how most of the 90's acts didn't stand the test of time. 1 year ago, a spanish rock magazine did a poll about the 100 greatest rock/metal bands of all-time and guess what: only one 90's band managed to be in this top 100: Pearl Jam. In this poll, there are a lot of 80's bands (U2, Metallica, REM, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, RHCP) and, of course, 60's/70's bands.

However, there were some great bands in the 90's (Warrior Soul, The Wildhearts, The Mother Station, Cry Of Love...), but unfortunately most of them were underground. Pantera, Tool, Black Crowes, Pearl Jam, AIC & Soundgarden were the rare good mainstream acts. To be honest, most of the best rock/metal bands of the last 20 years came from Europe(especially Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, Spain or Italy). European bands are not influenced by mainstream music from the USA.

Joe Elliott's statement about 90's is partly right. Nowadays, there are a lot of 80's acts who are still playing arenas and/or stadiums, while few, very few 90's acts do it. For example, a band like Korn actually plays in small venues (circa 750/1000 seats) in Europe. I live in Europe and travel sometimes in South America and in these places, the audience is into 60's/70's/80's stuff, but don't give a damn about the 90's stuff. Young people discover stuff from the 60's/70's/80's, not 90's one.
