I have since discovered that you can get a villa for about $40AUD a night that is really quite nice, and will sleep 2 people there. So this is a good possible place to base yourself out of in Bali, and travel from here. If you catch the bus it's a 1/2 hour bus trip to Kuta for $2.50 return. They have about 5-6 trips a day. One word of warning, when they arrive in Kuta in congested traffc they'll often suggest you get out, sometimes this is a good idea, sometimes not...
To get to the nice part of Sanur Beach, you will normally be dropped off at Mushroom Beach, if you travel by Perama Bus from Kuta ($2.50AUD return!). Walk south for about 500-1000m or so and you will arrive near the big hotels, look for the trees and you've arrived. There are bars and restaurants etc.
Not really visible in the video, but easily visible to the naked eye on a good day, is the island of Nusapenida off in the distance. This island is 17.85km or 11.09 miles away from Sanur beach. Fast boat/ferry services and slower ferries service the area and can carry you to Nusapenida island (at your own risk of course). I did not visit the island this time, but next time I will. Gauging by the popularity it must be worthwhile.
Went snorkelling, but visibility was very bad that day at least, could only see about 1 foot. Pay about $5AUD $(44500 IDR) to the hotel staff and they'll give you a deck chair mattress, towel and pool priviledges to the hotel pool about 30 metres away.
In 2011, returned to this same spot for a second time, not much has changed.

I've thrown a cheesy audio track over the video, rather than listen to wind noise. :)
