hey employers: get rid of the deadbeat relatives off your payroll. stop the flying lessons for your grandkids, oh and their waterski boat with your business name on the side, etc etc etc. and you can afford to keep and pay workers what they are worth. one job i had the boss was paying his kid 100k a year while he was in college, and at the same time cutting our health insurance. sure, it was his right to do it but dont expect loyalty at the same time.
The greatest innovation of American capitalists was to sell Feudalism to the serfs and have them champion the cause. "Creative destruction": brilliant!
@TheSouthpaw1993 absolutely! employees are able to leave their job for any reason, as they should be able to. i'm sure the lefties would be up in arms if i proposed laws against employees discriminating against certain businesses.
@evilillusionist so by that logic, shouldn't it be unfair for someone to leave their job to work somewhere else? the business should be entitled to keep their employees if the business was treating them well enough. also, if an old person is productive, then why would they be fired anyway? what business owner in their right mind would fire someone making them nice profits? clearly, discrimination would not be the cause of the firing, so the law is unnecessary.
@SuperSuzy09 what social responsibility standards? you pay your employees on time don't you? you're not lying to them about anything are you? what else is there? if you could be more profitable by getting rid of certain employees, it's your right to get rid of them. on the other hand, employees should be able to leave and work somewhere else if they can make more, shouldn't they?
2 GeneralMills777, I agree that there are limits to the governments involvements in our own personal and business decisions, but there are ethical and social responsibilities that we should hold as a nation, it has been those ethics that held us together during the depression and re-building our country. We need to be doing that now. I am a business owner, and I do hold to social responsibility standards. My word is my word to an employee.
If the older man is being productive enough to hold his own, there should be a law protecting against discrimination. Of course he won't be hyper-productive, but if he's making the business enough profit to merit his employment, why in the hell should he be fired? We're all human. We all age.
employers can be the first to complain about lack of loyalty on the part of employees. does it not work both ways?
