A chilly evening and a heavy train set to test my small live steam engine from Roundhouse Engineering. With a full head of steam and an aggressive start, the loco just makes it up the 1 in 20 (5%) gradient with 7 LGB hoppers in tow.

  • Great video. Do you have to do a lot of track cleaning after running the live steamer? Just wondering how much oil it put on the track and how that affects operations when running track-power electric. I'm guessing it must also make the track quite slippery too?? Looks like you've got a steep gradient there. Keep up the good work, all your vids are excellent!

  • @trainguy68 Thank for the kind words. Track cleaning is not too much of a problem after running the steamie, except for where it stops and starts. At those places, I get dribbles of both oil and water which do indeed make the track slippery.
