Our first night in the backcountry at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We started off in the South Unit outside Medora, North Dakota. It was one awe inspiring site after another with slumps, crags and wildlife.

  • oh and by the way niether of those rocks that you disturbed were petrified wood.

they were clay and a geod.

and petrified wood is created when the soil around the wood replaces the cells of the wood. and this is also in general how a fossil is made.

  • @retrorevert It was petrified wood. Our experience in Medora was completely different then what you described. Both the locals and the rangers were fantastic. We hit, my then 11 year old son, both north and south units and had an incredible experience. Hard to compare with the SD badlands. Each is unique in its own way although the wildlife is better up north. I've been to all 50 states and 40+ countries and the trip to North Dakota ranks with the best.

  • @retrorevert I appreciate you taking the time to watch. That was the rough cut, the entire piece is on my site, wailerwoo-dot-com. Bummer you had a bad time up there. We did not.

  • I think it's time for some new shorts.

  • just stayed there,i hear the people eat small children in the area....

  • @retrorevert ive been there many times and have never experienced what you have

  • @wailerwoo well i guess its different when you have to work there.

  • TR was a corrupt oil tycoon and coal barron. SD badlands are way better.

People in Medora are rude the park staff was uneducated and very unprofessional.

at least with the SD badlands there are national forests near by and natl' monuments.

dont wast your time, the only thing ND has is natl, pasture land.

  • wood that was rock

  • We just got back from Medora. It is great.
