@cosg9531 well, that depend on the perception of self mate. let's say you hang out at the bar chugging beer after beer after beer or just sitting on your comfy chair at work doing nothing but goof around, most people says that socializing, some says that's the true waste of money and time! This, this is just testing how far your body can go, it just a matter of self worth... and a lil bit of sheer pride at the finish line for me at least!

what's the price for winning the 1st place?

@cosg9531 Of course it will matter. Being physically fit will probably make it possible to even live to 90. Plus, it gives confidence to accomplish just about anything else that "matters". Also, it will matter to everyone else who is inspired by them for doing the ironman.

funny comment =)
but lets not forget we live in the present... the now... not the past nor the future... "later" is just a illusion of time perception.
right now you could be sitting on your arse in front of youtube staring at other people's active lifestyles...
or streaming down the chilly water with every stroke and kick... running/cycling against the wind while feeling your muscles scream under your sweat... pushing your body to the limit is an adrenalin rush for many.

What a waste of time. Do you think that it will matter in the slightest later? When you're 90, and you're in the home, will you have any recollections of this? No. All that you will be doing is trying to remember who your children are, and hoping that pudding is served at meal time.

@TikalDog i think the 6day run race is the hardest
-
I just did IM France which is by unanimous account the hardest in Europe. Believe me it's as gruesome as this video describes. EXACTLY this gruesome.

That's the Queen of Kona, 7time champion at Hawaii Paula Newby Frazier. Yes, she got up and walked to the end but she arrived third. This happened 300 mt from the finish line. Dehydration.
I absolutly think the Ironman is the toughest single day event!!!! But man..... the tour is a challenge all for it self..... can you imagine racing 180Km> one day after the next for 21 days (excluding rest days and time trial stages????)
I'm a triathlete but I give the tour the respect it deserves!!!

Watching this makes me want to do this triathlon really bad lol.
I wouldnt do it for winning over others, but more for victory over myself. They would probably have to carry me off the track though :)
