Das Weinfelder Maar gehört zur Dauner Maargruppe in der Westeifel. Ein Maar ist ein trichterförmiger Vulkan, der beim Kontakt von Magma mit Grundwasser durch eine Wasserdampf-Explosion in die Erdoberfläche hinein gesprengt wird.
