Shoji Nishio sensei was one of the most prominent aikido teachers, 8 dan Aikikai, also very skilled with the sword and the jo. He passed away in 2005. This film is from a seminar he had in my dojo Enighet, Malmö, in 1993. Notice his speed and virtuosity, and also his constant smile. He was a delightful teacher, always in a good mood, and always inspired. It was clear that he truly loved to do aikido. His sophisticated budo was not easy to learn, but we all sure enjoyed trying.
Here are photos of him on my website:

  • мягкие шаги моего мастера подобны парящему по весеннему тихому ветерку опавшего цветка сливового дерева,что растет на берегах неводомой мне земли

дыхание его учеников,как и биения их сердец в унисон с мастером

каждый частичку его души вобрать был бы счастлив-ибо прекрасна она-словно нежное прикосновение небесных Богов

  • Not only was Nishio's aikido beautiful to see, it was a pinnacle of technical excellence. It takes a lot of dedication to understand what he is doing and then do it, which is sadly why most aikido remains in the sad shape it is. I encourage every aikido person to dedicate themselves and become a student of the work Nishio did. You simply cannot understand Nishio without the sword.

  • Nishio Sensei was the answer to all the people who asked why we hold on as uke. This guy would be all over you with strikes. He was also what, a 7th dan in Karate too? Anyone in Los Angeles looking for Nishio Aikido, and Oyata Kempo should look up Robert Bryner. Bryner Sensei is razor sharp, as are his students.

  • i am really sorry to know that nishio sensei passed away .his style ia so flowing,i love the ''kaitannaga sotomawata'' that he has showed here.i never saw nishio sensei ,but ilove his stuff.

  • Increible maestro

  • Real budoka, remarkable teacher, everything that is positive can be said about him. I hope he rest in piece.

  • Aha, var lite för snabb där ^^D

Jag minns när han gick bort, det var tråkigt men jag har inte riktigt förstått hans betydelse förrän efteråt.

  • Shoji Nishio's aikido is so great.^^
