Lancashire pencil artist Duncan Armstrong GRA (Guild of Railway Artists) was born and has lived his whole life in Padiham. In early 2010 he has co-authored a book about his home town. Here he explains how he got involved.
My granddad Percy Simpson [lived field st] was a shunter at the old Padiham railyards. I lived Padiham [banks st] for couple of years in early fifties as a kid. I can trace my family tree[HIRST] back to the 1700;s in Padiham. Now live Australia. Have been back 7 times, last time 2010. A lot has changed and not for the better. Padiham is dying. Nearly all high street shops closing, even the Whalley range pub. The streets are filthy with litter. Sad. Still soft spot for Padiham
