http://www.VincentWhoFilm.com : VINCENT WHO? explores the Vincent Chin case, which ignited the first Asian American civil rights movement.
In 1982, Vincent Chin was murdered in Detroit by two white autoworkers at the height of anti-Japanese sentiments. His killers, however, got off with a $3,000 fine and no jail time. Outraged by this injustice, Asian Americans around the country united for the first time to form a pan-Asian identity and civil rights movement.
This documentary features interviews with the key players at the time as well as a whole new generation of activists. VINCENT WHO? asks how far Asian Americans have come since the case and how far they have yet to go.
Declare it a mistrial because the Judge was bias.

If the justice system doesn't work for minorities just riot, simple as that.

@MechaRadio No, it doesn't prove that they're dumb either. That's the POINT of this trailer. Asian American issues get overshadowed constantly, so much so that young Asian Americans are ignorant to things that impact THEM directly. You're either a troll, or a really dense if you don't realize that.

So wake up, they wanted justice from the ridiculious sentence that Rob Ebens and his stepson Michael Nitz received. They could not change the State's sentence of $3000 and 5 yrs PROBATION for a premeditated murder so they tried to get any type of justice and the federal charge of Civil violation was charged. It was a civil violation by the State of MI and the Judge or should I say by the higher /greater power. That is what its all about. Discremination

Once you use racial epithet in a confrontation, it becomes race related and a possible civil violation. In this case, I don't think it was a civil violation but it was discremination by the judge and the State of MI in not getting the proper justice for Vincent because he was asian. If it was an asian or a black person who went out a hunted down a caucasian, the sentence would have been premediated and rec'd 15 -20 yrs if not life.

@fkrizzy2010 OK bud. I just watched "Who killed Vincent Chin?". Even Vincent Chin's buddy who was there said that he walked over to Ebens and shoved him. As for Ebens he seems like and ahole and I personaly think he should have done time for murder. However Chin isn't totaly without blame and I'm not convinced this was race related. Drunk people say all sorts of crap and can have violent tempers. I've seen it.

@fkrizzy2010 Whatever, I’m just telling you what I saw on the news at the time. As the story went Chin and friends were insulting some stripper that Ebens liked and then they started insulting each other back and forth. Then Chin hit Ebens and the fight stated. They were all thrown out and after that Ebebs and Nitz hunted down Chin and killed him. Maybe it happened that way, maybe it didn’t. It’s not worth my time to go research it.

@jabberwock11 Links to back up your lies?
The fact of matter is -- Vincent Chin was savagely beat and murdered by a bunch of sick and vile animals because of his race. These vile pigs should have been put in jail for the rest of their life. Instead, thanks to great racist America, these racist animals were set free.
Defending animals, I see...

@wazzy3007 I don't know since I wasn't there. I bet you weren't either. However physical scuffles don’t ensure. Someone starts them.

@jabberwock11
No...the defendants never brought up a sucker-punch at trial, there was no evidence of anyone being sucker-punched. There was plenty of evidence that Ebens instigated the incident by declaring, "It's because of you little motherfuckers that we're out of work!" A physical scuffle then ensued. Later in the night, Ebens and Nitz spent 20-30 minutes hunting for Chin around the neighborhood. When they found him, they bludgeoned him to death with a baseball bat...

@MechaRadio wtf? Hey fool, if the U.S. education system DOES NOT teach us about incidents Vincent Chin, how would we know?
U.S. history books taught us about the Kennedy assassination and Abraham Lincoln, but nothing about Asian American history. earn to think before you open your shithole

Wow, a lot of hotties in this video...ignorant, Asian hotties. Where was the first part filmed? USC? UCLA?

Didn't he sucker punch the guy who killed him at a strip club? I remember hearing about this years ago. I'm not saying that it justifies his murder but the way I originally heard it reported is that he initiated a verbal confrontation and then escalated it to a physical confrontation. That might be why the guys who killed him got such a light sentence.

look at Elva Ling at 2:09, get off our asses? Stop trying to appease everyone? and look who's talking with her white husband. You use the term Asian American? How fond are you of including Hmong Americans under the Asian American classification. Chai Vang, when he fired 7 bullets and killed 6 whites did not protest, did not speak, he took the sniper scope off. Yeah Chai Vang got off his ass alright, but I'm sure you would rather prefer Caucasoid Indians as AA's rather than Hmong as AA's.

goddamn, all these asians who go to college are fucking stupid. one guy gives the reason he doesn't know vincent chin "that's before i was born".
Fuck you you dumbass. Martin Luther King Jr. was before I was born. JFK was before I was born. Abraham Lincoln was before I was born. Charlie Chaplin was before I was born.
But I fucking know who they are. Fucking dumbasses. Going to college doesn't prove you're smart.

One of the best docs I've seen! Thanks for making and telling this important story. Today marks V. Chin's 28th Anniversary of his death. RIP.
