From the Explore Postcard Series, another beautiful postcard on the lovely Umaid Bhavan Palace at Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India.
Set among 26 acres of lush gardens and high above the desert capital of Jodhpur, Umaid Bhawan Palace is the last of the great palaces of India and one of the largest private residences and one of the "Leading Hotels of the World", on this planet .
Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of the present Maharaja of Jodhpur, this sandstone monument was planned, designed and built on a grand scale, in the fashionable Art Deco Style of that time. The 347 room palace was finally completed in 1943 after 15 years of construction.
