Jeff Lindsay, author of the Dexter novels, explains how Michael C Hall was not his first choice to play the serial killer. He also reveals that to prepare for the role, Hall would follow people and imagine killing them!

The interview took place in late 2009 when Lindsay visited Sydney, Australia en-route to the Writers Festival in Byron Bay.

  • Holy shit I though Micheal was talking but it's actually Jeff Lindsay! THEY SOUND SO ALIKE

  • @SteelerFan7Films101 "Michael is actually doing my voice when he does the voiceovers." - it's like the chicken and egg!

  • Michael was born to play Dexter

  • Yeah, Michael would probably make a very good serial killer in real life as well...

  • And Lindsay screwed the weft of his books telling us that the force that makes Dexter kill (the dark passenger) is an evil spirit.... C'MON...!!

  • Mmmm, Why mention Michael's Six Feet Under character ? If is Lindsay's voice, he sounds like a poor HOMOPHOBIC FAT ....

  • Without Michael Hall, DEXTER wouldn't be world famous.

  • @panthercat38 It wasn't, but it got better as the books progressed. I think it was around the third book (the one where voo-doo was involved and Doakes was killed) that the television series became better.

  • "after he read the script he would go out at night and follow people...and imagine killing them" LOL

  • @ilycatherine I totally agree. Season 1 and the book should be scrutinized in every writer's curriculum.

  • You know, as a writer, I would be really intimidated that the season 1 writing was much better than the actual book...

  • @nso1256 I agree, that is one hell of a complement. I can't imagine anyone else playing the role.
