This is my second OO gauge Class 60 with sound and this one is 60048 "Eastern" in EWS livery by Hornby. I received this model as one of my birthday gifts just over two weeks ago from my nan, but I've not had much chance to give it a run until tonight (21/06/2009) and here in this video I am using my R965 Hornby DC controller just to try it out. Overall I am very impressed with the sound quality now that I have heard the Hornby model of 60048 in the flesh so to speak. To me its not too loud even though the volume is set to 64 which is the maximum. However I will reduce this to about 40-45 as the decoder can overheat if the volume is too high which the sound starts to distort. As you will see in this video, the first wagon behind 60048 throws a wobbly twice so I apologise for the derailments that occured, but I remedied this by moving the first wagon to the back of the short rake (yes I need to make this rake longer as its currently too short) and it seem to worked okay after that. I promise I will do another video of this locomotive in DCC mode with my LokProgrammer soon, but for now I hope you will enjoy this video.

  • I really like that hornby have done that because it is really expencive for dcc

  • @MrFlix76: You can pick up 60042 for £148 from ModelZone, as that model seems to be a slow seller because of the error with the EWS logo on the twin grill side being too close to the left grill.

  • ace dc sound dc dc dc not dcc dc thats amaizing i take it that when you turn the power off it just goes off and when you turn it it it comes on

  • @pyronathanpyro: Yes mate, the sound is okay on DC mode, but you will only hear mainly the engine sounds only and sometimes a bit of brake noise if you slow down gradually.

  • Lucky it didnt De-Rail second time round ! Nice sounds tho..

  • I guess it was luck regarding the wagons. Thanks for the comment.

  • Una pregunta. El decodificador de sonido viene montado para que funcione en DC? o se debe programar a este efecto? Que decodificador trae este modelo de hornby? en bachmann que trae loksound es lo mismo? Gracias. Saludos.

One question. The sound decoder is fitted to run on DC? or must be programmed for this purpose? That brings this model decoder hornby? Bachmann LokSound in bringing the same thing? Thank you. Greetings

  • It will appear on there sometime I'm sure :).

  • Nicely done there Ash, its very much welcome on Stockwell Road ;)
