Here's a piece I learned for my study piece of week 2, Day 15, 'Country Boy' by Albert Lee. It has mental hybrid picking, with the hardest part of the song being the main riff!
Gear:
Fender American Deluxe with V neck
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Wine Edition
Boss DD-6 delay pedal (for last verse + chorus)

Also, massive apology for the lack of updates over the last month, I've been so busy that I haven't had that much time to edit (which takes me ages for some vids!), but I'm trying to catch up now, and there should be quite a few videos coming this week.

  • Very nice job. i am Albert's daughter and found your video on the page of "recommended for you" section. I sang with him this weekend at the James Burton guitar festival and he did Country Boy. It's difficult to get together with a band, they always seem to be playing too slow or maybe my dad is playing too fast. Anyway, very impressed, best version i've heard by someone else. Especially since you play through to the end and use the echoplex.

  • Wow, thanks a lot for that comment, that really means a lot to me!

I did notice a lack of all the details and stuff in other covers on Youtube, so I thought that I'd push myself and do the whole thing pretty much note-for-note (though I messed up a few times)!

It's part of my project that I've got going on (check out the rest of my Youtube channel) to become awesome at guitar. :)

Anyway, thanks a lot, you made my day! :D

  • Gladly voted for your band

  • Thanks dude!

  • wow was that song originally for 2 guitars?

  • Haha, I don't think so, Albert Lee is just freakin' insane!

  • do you have tabs??

  • WOW....unbelievable! Thanks for sharing.

  • Hey, great stuff. I figured out that 'exchoplex'-ending 'Country Boy' solo over 42 bars as well in the 80s. And was lucky to play it once in front of Albert himself at my place in Amsterdam.

I guess, it's Albert's hallmark song definately, as everything that makes his playing so unique is in there. As long you've got a solid bass and drummer playing along with you in a band situation, it's really fun.

Maybe I put my version on YouTube one day!

Thanks a lot for sharing, and keep it up!

  • I play guitar myself and am a huge fan of Albert Lee. A little is lost there in the sound quality, but that my friend is outstanding!

  • thanks for this great mostly clear look at this great song i have been trying to play it for decades and your video really helped, just one small part where i could not see the top of the neck, but sir this was truly an outstanding and helpful video, and I admire your clarity of tone, precise playing technique and phrasing thank you so much

  • I've been listening to your dad since farlowe and the t-birds - he's beyond talented - I play banjo ( I'm not fast enough on guitar) and also build teles - have fun thanks

  • Awesome work! if you like this style of music check out brad paisleys me neither. Im working on it now and its an absolute bitch to play. I wish I could have even an atom of your focus and determination. Keep it up!

I voted for your band btw :-)
