The civil war was really about one thing - the destruction of fascism - which included the soul-destroying, mind-fucking, paedophile-ridden catholic church. Opponents of fascism came from varied backgrounds whose differences were forgotten in the major cause.Had not so many good men died in the struggle - sucked in like lambs to the slaughter by propaganda which ironically favoured the the overwhelming combined military might of 3 fascist regimes - the world may have been a different place now.

@anticommunist100 You really do need to read up on History better. You chose or didn't know that the Basque fought for the Republic and they are staunch Catholics. And the Nationalists murdered 16 Basque clergy including the Arch-Priest of Mondragon and also persecuted Protesants. In fact, I leave you to find out what the Republic was and consisted of.

not everyone that fought for the republic was communist or even socialist the rpeublican left was "liberal" and if i am not mistaken..spain is now run by a democratically elected "socialist" governement so who won in the end then eh?
