After the end of the promo, the signal switches and fails for a few seconds, which means we miss the new look UK Gold ident, it cuts in during a promo for its celebration of Comedy evening, and then another new ident into the first programme on the new look channel. UK(TV) Gold will relaunch as Gold in October 2008 solely as a comedy channel.

  • What did you think of these idents at the time they were introduced compared to the ones that had been there previously?

I was quite young back then and we didn't have this channel so I didn't take too much notice when I saw that it had changed.

  • I was half and half about them to be frank, the good being that they looked rather tidy, polished and very BBC like, the bad being that they just lost their character totally and became part of a package. But these are still better than the current lot we have today like.

  • Hiya.

Out of interest, do you have the last showing of the gold bar idents?

  • As I said on Part1, I didn't record it, but there was a farewell IVC announcement from Glen Allen before the last programme. But as I said, I didn't record anyrhing else on Gold that day.

  • Stevieg when you recorded this of Analogue Cable why is CWC outputting channels from Analogue satellite?

  • Thanks for your comment. I can imagine that after the 1997 relaunch, it must have been quite a shock to anybody who was familiar with the original UK Gold.

I haven't had much experience of the older UK Gold(1992-1997) but one thing I've noticed is that the announcements seemed to be made specifically for each programme whereas after 1997 they were just pre-recorded

One thing I was fascinated by was the fact that the ad break bumper for Neighbours was the same as the one used on the BBC.
