@tcsonline but still sonny bill had the intension of hitting johns with a shoulder charge and not getting properly thus making it a dangerous move because its only useful when someone is coming straight at you and regardless of his age it still retired him, dont contest ? they do contest the scrum in league lol some are proberly too lazy to actually do it , and i agree the shittest part about union is the line outs it stops the momentum but it is a smart plan killing the other teams momentum

@276tech Johns' was like 33, he'd been tackled around the head a number of times. It was an injury during training a few weeks after Sonny's head high tackle, that ended his career anyway.

LOL a league scrum is soo much different, they dont even contest just so they can get backs vs backs to add to the excitement of the game. Thank fck there are no line outs in league otherwise people would be kicking the ball all day and thankfully there are only 1 point f/goals in league.

Scrums and rucks are the biggest waste of time.... in Union, you'll pack a scrum 12 times over only to have a bloody penalty blown !!

the fact that it's risky is exactly why like you said, union officials know that it's not worth possibly ending a players career due to defending in a game, both are entertaining depending on what you find entertaining, league fans classify union as the weaker sport due to no shoulder charging yet union players are physically stronger and bigger yet their scrums and rucks are more harder than league :L such stupidity...

All that matters is that it is older.. thus established itself already is still more popular as a result.

They dont teach it, because it's risky to the players the shoulder charges just as risky as it is to the player receiving it... e.g. Sonny Bill, Steve Matai, Benji Marshall.. all requiring shoulder surgery. It's entertaining and adds to the value of the game.. simple.
