My favorite part of G.F. Handel's oratorio "Messiah", sung by the Musicon gang and friends, directed by Jon Colegrove.

Approximately 75 voices plus the 4 soloists, and an excellent ad hoc orchestra.

  • Inspiring...well done one and all,i really appreciated it and was uplifted,as i have been down recently, trying to cope against the world ,the flesh, and the devil.Thankfully ,my lovely Jesus will bring me through this time .

    Seasons greetings to you all.

By the way,the Hallelujah chorus was terrific as well. Thankyou .

  • obsoleteodds, have a great Christmas, may the Prince of Peace reign in your heart! His Kingdom will prevail, not just for the whole world, but for YOU!

  • One more point: cheap handheld vidcam in the back of the hall... it's not going to give you a very realistic sense of the tone or even the pitch. Let's not get overly technical with the criticism based on a lousy video. Props to the Musicon peeps!

  • OK, you guys, maybe it's not perfect. Did you get the part about TWO DAYS of preparation? This is not a standing choir, and in fact most of them are amateurs. I think it was pretty amazing given the circumstances! One - ONE - rehearsal of the orchestra, and with the orchestra.

  • Thank you. It's one of my favorites too.

Could you post "And he shall purify"?

  • Sorry, only recorded these two parts! I should have recorded "purify" because that seemed to be the theme of the weekend. (This isn't a standing choir. Most of them actually came together on Friday night, spent the weekend in rehearsal, workshops, and worship, and delivered on Sunday.) Anyway, the theme for the workshops was God's purification of his people, which is also a big theme of the Advent season - which we liturgical types are in right now.

  • I think you are responding to the wrong post.

  • I really think your taking that too far. I'm fine with being very religious, I personally am. However, just because a song is religious doesn't mean it can never sound bad.

This is a very good rendition of Messiah.

  • Have you posted your high school's choir on youtube? I'm sure we'd all enjoy hearing it.

  • God loves it and so do I.

  • My choir sang this song and I loved it.

  • The choir at the high school I went to did it much better, and do so every year. However, they are the best choir in the state, so I expect it. Overall, assuming there wasn't much rehearsal, it's not that bad.

  • You cant never beet the Messiah

  • i did this song in choir

  • For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

    (Isaiah 9:6)
