UBC Young Artist Experience (YAE) 2009 summer concert at West Vancouver United Church, Aug 14, 2009.
Miss. Tjokro (piano), Miss Lee (violin) and Mr. Huang (cello) performed the ever-wandering, restless 3rd mvt of Smetana piano trio opus 15 in G minor.
"..It was the death of his eldest daughter Bedriska (Fritzi), then only five years old, on Sept .6 1855, that caused Smetana to give vent to his grief in the intimacy of chamber music ..."
UBC YAE is unique among summer chamber music programs for young artists in Canada, because its educational mandate is founded on the concept of integrative multi-disciplinary education for musicians. With its current Artistic Director, Professor Rena Sharon and Associate Directors, Corey Hamm and Jasper Wood, the content includes studies in sciences, humanities, arts and social responsibility, in addition to traditionally rigorous training in the practice and performance of the chamber music repertoire. http://www.youngartistexperience.ca
It was not an easy process or is it ... ? Not only that these 30 young musicians have to get to know each other, they also have to learn making music and performing it in a mere 2 weeks time.
However, witnessing the music and laughs shared during their farewell (and the tears afterwards ....); no doubt it was a memorable experience for each and every participant of YAE 2009.
